Poverty simulation scheduled in May

Neosho County residents will have the opportunity to participate in a poverty simulation on May 19th. The project is sponsored by K-State Research and the Neosho County Extension Office. According the County Extension Agent Lois Carlson, the simulation will include 90 residents who will roll-play life scenarios involving social, financial and personal hardship. Tables that represent agencies and social services will be placed in the room and participants will work though the poverty scenario moving from table to table in an attempt to solve their situations.  Each 15-minute segment will represent a week in time and the entire simulation will roll-play a four week period in the life of the participants.
The simulation  will run from 5 to 9 p.m. and pre-registration is required by calling Lois at (620) 244-3826. A $5.00 fee is charge to help with cost of the project. The core planning committee also includes the Social Rehabilitation Service Office, the Chanute Police Department, the Chanute Housing Authority and Rev.
