Agent receives award Lois Carlson, Erie, was recognized as Outstanding Alumni Recipient for 2004 by the Department of Family Consumer Sciences, Pittsburg State University. The presentation was made during the Spring Awards Banquet held May 6th in the Overman Student Center on the PSU campus. The award was given in recognition of her overall career accomplishments as a graduate of the department. Lois was one of the first women to be appointed as county coordinator for the extension service and has served as Neosho County Family Consumer Science Extension Agent for the past 40 years. During her career she has held county, area, state and national offices connect with her profession. Half of her program responsibilities have involved working with the county 4-H program. A 1964 graduate of the PSU, Lois is a charter member of the Alumni Chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron, a honorary fraternity for Family Consumer Sciences and she is a part member of the FCS department's advisor board. Prior to the awards banquet, she participated in the dedication ceremonies for the new Family Consumer Science Department Building recently completed on the Oval at PSU. As one of the alumni, Lois was asked to speak during the dedication ceremonies and also helped with the unveiling of the historic building plaques at the special ribbon cutting. Lois has been a member of the Chamber for several years and recently announced that she is retiring from the extension office.
