….Reporters and advertising staff at The Chanute Tribune recently took honors of journalism excellence at the annual Kansas Press Association meeting in Kansas City. Reporter Jesse Tuel was awarded first place in government coverage and Tod Palmer took second place in sports column writing. Shanna Foster-Guiot was also recognized with an honorable mention for government coverage. In the KBA contest the Tribune competes against 15 other Kansas daily newspapers in the Daily Division I which includes newspapers with a circulation of under 4,700. In a corporate-wide contest with Harris Enterprises, awards went to advertising manager Nancy Isaac and graphic designer Brenda Pitts, and the Tribune editor and publisher Ann Charles for local editorial writing. In the Harris contest, entries were judged by the journalism department of the University of Iowa.
….Sharon Stirewalt, owner of Sharon's Garden Station, was recently featured in the Garden Center Merchandising and Management magazine's May issue. Sharon, former director of Main Street Chanute, was interviewed on the importance of the organization's work to keep businesses in downtown locations.
