Police investigate theft at Chamber office

A bank bag containing a deposit of nearly $5,600 was stolen from the Chamber of Commerce office sometime during the afternoon of February 26th. The deposit was mostly checks and fortunately contained only $231 cash.  The Chamber's accounting program allowed us to detail all of the deposit information, including the owner and dollar amount of each check and check number. Chanute banks and check holders were contacted regarding stop payments. A very special thank you to the banks who agreed to waive the stop payment fee on all checks involved in the theft. The majority of the deposit was contributions and ticket money for the Hometown Sock Hop, our annual collaboration with Main Street Chanute. Although we do maintain a guarded atmosphere with all deposits and financial transactions, we now have implemented a vigilant attitude towards deposits and personal property in the Chamber office. ~ Jodi
