What's in a Smile?
A smile costs noting but creates much. It enriches those who receive without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes last forever.
It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad and nature's best antidote for trouble. Yet is cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away. Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.

~ Gene Bluhm

SEK Day on the Hill
A very special thank you to those Chamber members who represented Chanute at the 2004 SEK Day on the Hill on February 4th in Topeka. In addition to Chamber representatives Jodi Lucke and Anna Methvin, those attending were Chamber President Maury Thompson, Chanute Assistant City Manager Brad Eilts, Sheri Calhoon, Jackie Witherspoon, and Chanute Tribune reporter Jesse Tuel. The Day on the Hill is a project of SEK Inc. and involves collective efforts from representatives from 14 southeast Kansas counties. Participants met with Kansas legislators and received a short presentation from Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
