Plans for Leadership Chanute 2006 underway
In keeping with our goals of strengthening the direction of our citizenry, the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce and Office of Tourism, Neosho County Community College and the City of Chanute are pleased to announce that they will soon be recruiting nominees for
Leadership Chanute 2006. Plans are underway for the next class that is scheduled to begin on January 17th and held every-other Tuesday until May 23rd.
All three entities believe that one responsibility of a community is to maintain a vision for its future and an element of that vision is providing a strong foundation of leadership -  one that forms a deliberate transition of power to a younger generation. The program is designed to create and develop a pool of future leaders and prepare them for active public involvement.
Leadership Chanute 2006 will be a comprehensive course of study and is designed to identify potential community leaders, acquaint such person with the community's continuing needs, strengths and opportunities; to explore solutions to problems and challenges; and motive potential leaders to become involved in Chanute's future. Classes will be held in the evening and a wide variety of topics will be included in the curriculum.
There will also be extra-curricular activities outside of the classroom that includes participating in SEK Day on the Hill at Topeka in February, attending a Chanute City Commission meeting, touring local manufactures and medical facilities; and meeting with at least one non-profit organization. The class will be limited to 15 candidates. Each participant will pay a registration fee of $239, which includes cost of class materials, notebooks, SEK Day on the Hill expenses and a graduation dinner and ceremony scheduled for May 23rd. The fee may be paid by the individual or an employer. Watch for more information on the program and deadlines for nominations.

"Leadership is not so much about technique and methods as it is about opening the heart. Leadership is about inspiration, of oneself and of others. Leadership is not a formula….it is a human activity that comes from the heart and considers the hearts of others. It is an attitude, not a routine"
