Tourism board awards grant

At their August meeting, the Chanute Tourism Board of Directors voted to award a $500 grant to give financial support to the 2005 Chanute Rodeo. The rodeo was held August 19th and 20th and sponsored by the Bit & Spur Saddle Club. The grant money is available from the additional funds collected from the transient guest tax, funds that are above the amount required to operate the tourism program. In addition to the rodeo, in 2005 the board has awarded funding support to the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum, $800; Main Street Chanute's Artist Alley, $1,000; and the Chanute Mexican Fiesta, $955. Local non-profit organizations are invited to apply for grant money through the program. Specific criteria is required to qualify. For more information contact the Chamber office, 431-3350. The grant program was introduced in 2004 and the board looks to award up to $5,000 during the calendar year.
