We are fortunate to have The Chanute Art Gallery in our community. This is just the latest example of what they bring to the quality of life in Chanute. The Chanute Art Gallery received an opportunity from Humanities Kansas--to get 25 "Words of a Feather" books in exchange for doing some programming with them. The small book is ten poems about birds illustrated by artwork of birds by Brad Sneed. So, we have three activities going. 1) an art exhibit at The Gallery of birds of all sorts 2) a poetry reading planned in conjunction with the Chanute Public Library. We will read the 10 poems in the book and hear from Tim Tarkelly, a hometown poet. It will be held Tuesday, August 17 at 7:00pm at the library. 3) a Facebook "bird watch". For the month of August, we are encouraging folks to keep an eye out for birds in your area. Then please post what you see--descriptions and/or pictures. We will keep track of the birds seen around here and post them at the end of the month. Happy bird watching! ...
